Hi All, the social media frenzy has begun! This new and exciting project and competition has officially launched across all platforms. In Brief (you can read more on the about page) the competition was created by a writer and a photographer who wanted to challenge themselves, and others, to create stories of exactly 1000 words and a photographic image to visually respond to the story.
There have been a fair few collaborative projects like this about, however we have not found one where the writer creates the story first, and then the photographer must respond visually to this. We keep the identity of the authors and photographers secret until opening night. Therefore the two parties, although creating a combined piece of work for exhibition (and the chance to share in $2500 worth of prizes) actually do not meet until their work does, on opening night, when the finalists will meet for the first time and where winners are announced and awarded their prizes. There will be a people's choice award once the exhibition is open.
There are two categories - Open and Youth (up to 15 Years), and writers have from now until March 31st 2015 to get their entries in for shortlisting. Written pieces selected as shortlisted will then be announced and published on the 1000 words publications so that photographers may then choose the story they would like to respond to visually. A panel of judges will eventually pair the winning photo with the winning stories and be printed and mounted for exhibition. The exhibition venue will be announced via social media, and all entrants will receive important notifications via email. The aim of the project is to have a traveling exhibition so that more people may share the delightful works that will be on display.
Sounds exciting because it is! All participants are able to enter as many times as they like with different media content, so if you really want to improve your chances of being a finalist, you may choose to enter two or three stories or photographs. You may even enter as both a writer and photographer, however you may not enter photographs for your own stories, as the co-creators must not meet, and seeing as you already know yourself, well... you know that would not be right. Apart from that, get your creativeness on, and direct any comments and questions so we can respond. Have fun!
